Hacktoberfest may be winding down, but there's still time to get those pull requests in. This month's roundup of major open source releases from August and September offers plenty of fresh targets for your contributions.
Front Matter 9.0
Front Matter — a CMS that runs inside Visual Studio Code and GitPod — reaches version 9 with significant expansion. The tool now supports English, German, and Japanese, and Visual Studio Code support has graduated from experimental to fully stable. Astro's new assets location is supported, and the extensibility library offers additional UI customization options.
Astro 3.0
Astro, the web framework focused on scalable performance and lightweight output, has shipped its third major version. Highlights include image optimization, faster rendering, improved hosting platform connections, and fast refresh support for React and Preact. The output HTML is also cleaner.
Framework x 4.0
Built on Node.js and Express for API development, Framework x takes a no-frills approach. Version 4.0 is now available, and maintainers welcome both issue reports and Hacktoberfest pull requests.
Drifty 2.0
Drifty, the interactive file downloader, adds a graphical interface mode in version 2.0. It now supports Instagram video downloads and ships native executables for Windows (msi, exe), macOS (pkg), and Linux.
OpenAPI Generator 7.0
OpenAPI Generator 7.0 is described as a major release with breaking changes and no fallback. The update incorporates more than 500 pull requests and adds three new generators, including clients for Zapier and Sttp4. Additional properties support and security fixes are also included.
OpenLayers 8.0
OpenLayers, the library for interactive web maps, now requires attention to upgrade notes in version 8.0. Several API simplifications are not backward compatible, so review the provided migration document. The release also adds support for new layers and static image detection on load.
GraphQL API Voyager 2.0
GraphQL API Voyager, which represents any GraphQL API as an interactive graph, cleans up its codebase in version 2.0. New features and bug fixes are accompanied by removal of legacy features for smoother operation.
Livewire 3.0
Livewire, the full-stack framework for Laravel that builds dynamic UI components, requires PHP 8.1 or higher in its newest release. New features include configuration options and command improvements, with an automated upgrade tool available. Consult the migration guide before updating.
DiceBear 7.0
DiceBear has moved quickly since its 5.0 release less than a year ago. Version 7.0 introduces a new "rings" avatar style, an HTTP API endpoint, and various bug fixes. The full avatar collection is available on the project website.
