A Monthly Shot of Creative Inspiration

Inspiration has a way of showing up in the quieter moments of the season: the shifting colors of falling leaves, the comfort of a warm drink, or a brisk walk through an October breeze. For those moments when a little extra creative push is welcome, our monthly wallpapers series returns with a fresh collection.

This October edition features original artwork from designers around the world. Each wallpaper is available in two formats: one with an October 2022 calendar and one without, letting you keep track of deadlines or use the design long after the month wraps up. As a nod to the series' long history — more than eleven years and counting — you'll also find a few selections from previous October editions tucked in at the end.

Two quick notes on the collection:

  • The artists were given complete creative freedom; the themes and subjects of the wallpapers were not directed by us.

Interested in seeing your own work featured next month? We're always on the lookout for new creative talent to join the series.

Dreamy Autumn Girl

Inspired by the coziness of autumn and the calm, reflective mood it brings, this design centers on the simple pleasure of bundling up in a warm sweater, tea in hand, watching the world go by. The artist also points to a listicle of free printable calendars for those seeking other thematic options.

Halloween On Screen

PopArt Studio, a design team from Serbia, captures the quintessential spooky season with a digital illustration that nods to trick-or-treating, the gothic tales of Edgar Allan Poe, and the cinematic style of Tim Burton. The result is a wallpaper that brings a playful Halloween atmosphere to any screen.

Autumn's Palette

Not every October wallpaper needs to be about Halloween. Designer Andrew from the United States focuses on the seasonal shift itself, capturing the oranges, browns, and earthy tones of fall. The image evokes the feeling of a crisp walk through the park, taking in the changing colors as the weather turns colder.

A Wallpaper for Clearer Thinking

Hitesh Puri from Delhi, India, offers a more contemplative desktop. The designer pairs the artwork with a note on the value of deep thought: it helps challenge assumptions, uncover new perspectives, keep the mind sharp, and foster optimism. Divergent thinking strategies, the note adds, are useful for examining a problem from all sides and locating its true root. The wallpaper encourages you to try on perspectives you might not have considered before.

Durga Puja, in Warm Tones

For those marking Durga Puja this month, designer Rahul Bhattacharya of India offers an illustration that celebrates the festival's central figure. The piece is described as a welcome to "Maa Durga" and the ideas she represents: power, love, and blessings. The wallpaper carries a warm, festive color palette fitting the occasion.

The wallpaper is available with and without a calendar. The calendar versions range from 320x480 up to 1680x1200; the clean versions span the same set of sizes, from 320x480 to 1680x1200. A preview image is also provided for a quick look before downloading.

A Solitary Tree for Halloween

October's spooky side is represented by a moodier design from Philippe Brouard in France. His piece starts from a photograph of an old tree, set against the shorter days and creeping nighttime atmosphere of autumn in the north. The designer leans into a slightly unsettling vibe, openly wondering whether something—or someone—might be hiding within the tree's dark form.

This wallpaper offers a more limited but still useful range of resolutions. With a calendar, download sizes run from 1024x768 through 2880x1800; the calendar-free versions are offered at the same set of resolutions, from 1024x768 up to 2880x1800. As with all entries in this collection, a preview file is available for viewing before you commit.

From The Archives: October Favorites Worth A Second Look

Some designs deserve more than a single season on your screen. Digging through past October editions, we pulled out a handful of standouts that are worth revisiting. These are previous favorites, so they don't include a calendar for this month.

Goddess Makosh

“At the end of the kolodar, as everything begins to ripen, the village sets out to harvesting. Together with the farmers goes Makosh, the Goddess of fields and crops, ensuring a prosperous harvest. What she gave her life and health all year round is now mature and rich, thus, as a sign of gratitude, the girls bring her bread and wine. The beautiful game of the goddess makes the hard harvest easier, while the song of the farmer permeates the field.” — Designed by PopArt Studio from Serbia.

Bird Migration Portal

“October is a significant month for me because it is when my favorite type of bird travels south. For that reason I have chosen to write about the swallow. When I was young, I had a bird’s nest not so far from my room window. I watched the birds almost every day; because those swallows always left their nests in October. As a child, I dreamt that they all flew together to a nicer place, where they were not so cold.” — Designed by Eline Claeys from Belgium.

“To me, October is all about cozy evenings with hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies, and a game night with friends or family.” — Designed by Lieselot Geirnaert from Belgium.

Hello Autumn

“Did you know that squirrels don’t just eat nuts? They really like to eat fruit, too. Since apples are the seasonal fruit of October, I decided to combine both things into a beautiful image.” — Designed by Erin Troch from Belgium.
