A Month of Community Wallpapers

May has arrived, and with it a new batch of desktop wallpapers created by artists and designers from around the world. Each submission in this collection is available in versions both with and without a May 2022 calendar, so you can pick whichever fits your screen and workflow. The creative freedom given to contributors means the themes vary widely this month—from purely artistic explorations to designs carrying deeper, personal messages.

The monthly wallpaper series has long been a space for creative experimentation. Contributors use it as a chance to test unfamiliar techniques, tell stories that matter to them, or simply build something fun. The results, as always, form a diverse gallery of community-made artwork that works across desktop and mobile displays.

Kira

The first wallpaper in this month's collection carries a somber message. On April 23, in Odesa, a random Russian missile killed three-month-old Kira Glodan, her mother Valerie, and her grandmother. The father, who had been out buying products, survived but lost his home. Designed by Vlad Gerasimov from Georgia, the artwork responds to the tragedy—one of many that often go unreported in wartime. Gerasimov felt compelled to help spread the word: "War, please stop."

The wallpaper is available in a wide range of resolutions for both calendar and no-calendar versions, from 800x480 up to 5120x2880.

A Month Worth Celebrating

May arrives with a calendar full of reasons to celebrate, from International Workers’ Day and Cinco de Mayo to Victory Day. There are also the more whimsical observances — days dedicated to turtles, birds, wine, and macarons — alongside the obligatory nod to Star Wars fans with May the Fourth. Serbia’s PopArt Studio captures that festive spirit in a design that leans into the season’s promise of warmth, blooming flowers, and fresh starts.

As with every wallpaper in this month’s collection, the design is available in a wide range of resolutions, both with and without a calendar overlay. The calendar version helps you keep track of the month ahead, while the clean version is ideal for those who prefer an uncluttered desktop.

When Cardboard Figures Carry a Heavier Message

Vlad Gerasimov from Georgia set out to create a simple illustration of people made from cardboard. The result, however, carries a weight he didn't fully anticipate. As he puts it himself, “I was trying to draw a simple picture, with people made of cardboard. But I guess my thoughts of war leak through. War, please stop.”

The Impenetrable Wall Of Love

The wallpaper is available in a range of standard display resolutions. You can grab a preview first, then download the version that fits your screen. For those who like to keep the date in view, calendar editions are provided; if a clean look is preferred, versions without a calendar are also on offer.

Bright and Bold: Two New Additions

This month's collection continues with a pair of contrasting designs, one playful and light and another that leans toward the monumental. Each contribution below is offered in a wide range of common resolutions to accommodate phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop monitors.

The Monolith

The Monolith, designed by Ricardo Gimenes from Sweden, offers a departure from the softer botanical themes in the collection. Its exact composition is best viewed either with or without the calendar grid.

Files are available for both variants in resolutions from 640x480 up to 3840x2160, with the full-size list following the preview below.

Blooming May

The second release makes the season explicit. Blooming May comes from the team at MasterBundles in Ukraine, who note that spring deserves bright colors and a feeling of lightness after the winter months. For additional seasonal inspiration, the studio points to a dedicated collection of free May calendar wallpaper resources via their website.

Spring Gracefulness

"We don't usually count the breaths we take, but observing nature in May, we can't count our breaths being taken away." — Ana Masnikosa, Belgrade, Serbia.

From Nope To Hope

"Hope helps us define what we want in our futures and is part of the self-narrative about our lives we all have running inside our minds. Whether we think about it or not, hope is a part of everyone's life. Everyone hopes for something. It's an inherent part of being a human being." — Hitesh Puri, Delhi, India.

Be On Your Bike!

"May is National Bike Month! So, instead of hopping in your car, grab your bike and go. Our whole family loves that we live in our bike-friendly community. So, bike to work, to school, to the store, or to the park — sometimes it is faster. Not only is it good for the environment, but it is great exercise!" — Karen Frolo, United States.

Who Is Your Mother?

"Someone who wakes up early in the morning, cooks you healthy and tasty meals, does your dishes, washes your clothes, sends you off to school, sits by your side and cuddles you when you are down with fever and cold, and hugs you when you have lost all hopes to cheer you up. Have you ever asked your mother to promise you never to leave you? No. We never did that because we are never insecure and our relationship with our mothers is never uncertain. We have sketched out this beautiful design to cherish the awesomeness of motherhood. Wishing all a happy Mothers Day!" — Acodez IT Solutions, India.
