A unified home for GitHub documentation
Learning the tools and products you use is essential to getting the most out of them. GitHub has now consolidated all of its product documentation into a single site, docs.github.com, with the goal of making that learning process more straightforward.
Previously, GitHub split its documentation across two domains: help.github.com for user-focused content and developer.github.com for those building integrations. That distinction no longer matches the company’s broader product scope. By merging these two resources, GitHub aims to provide a single source of truth for everyone, regardless of their experience level.
What the new site offers
The most immediate benefit of docs.github.com is that it unifies content from both prior sites. This means you can search across the entire collection of GitHub product documentation from one interface, including material originally aimed at both end users and integrators. The consolidated search functionality is designed to save you time when hunting for a specific topic.
Language support is also expanding. At launch, the site is available in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish, in addition to English. Plans are in place to broaden the language support to cover the full documentation set, including content written for those creating integrations with GitHub.
Next steps
This initial release represents the foundation for a larger effort to make discovering new tools and approaches easier. GitHub states it will keep adding to this experience and rolling out improvements in the future. The announcement signals a longer-term shift toward making its documentation a more comprehensive and accessible resource for all users.
