Images on a travel post
Jetpack's block collection in the WordPress editor covers a lot of ground—slideshows, tiled galleries, business hours, contact info, GIFs, Markdown, star ratings, payment buttons, and more. They're all usable anywhere in post content, not just in special widget areas.
Writing a trip report from Tulum, Mexico recently, the post was naturally heavy on photos. Jetpack already handled a lot of the heavy lifting for those images:
- Serving them from a CDN
- Optimizing file sizes
- Generating responsive image markup
- Lazy loading
For a few spots in the post, a slideshow was a better fit than a long vertical stack of photos.
A block, not a shortcode
The slideshow is a proper block in the Gutenberg editor, so adding and rearranging images works through the standard block interface.
If a grid layout had been preferable, the tiled gallery block would have worked as a more visual take on the default gallery block.
