FigJam: A dedicated space for early-stage ideas

Figma is introducing FigJam, an online whiteboard designed for teams to brainstorm and ideate together. The tool grew out of an observation: people were already using Figma for far more than interface design. Multiplayer pong, ice breakers, meal planning, and brainstorming sessions were all happening inside the product. In those cases, no pixels were being pushed and no products were being designed—people simply wanted a shared space to connect and exchange ideas.

That insight led the Figma team to explore how to make the product a more inviting place for free-form interaction, with the goal of bringing more people into the earliest stages of design. But after digging further, the team realized these interactions needed their own dedicated environment—one where anyone could feel welcome to jump in and share, and where designers would still feel at home.

Built for brainstorming, wired for collaboration

FigJam is positioned as a lightweight complement to Figma, easier to learn and designed to be fun. It serves teams defining user problems, seeking inspiration, and exploring ideas before any serious design work begins. The feature set covers both group and individual workflows:

  • Multiplayer brainstorming with sticky notes, emojis, and drawing tools
  • Systems thinking in single-player mode using shapes and pre-built lines and connectors for mapping user flows and building processes
  • Built-in audio so teams can talk through ideas without jumping to a separate phone call or video chat
  • Seamless Figma integration, keeping everything from initial concept to final prototype in one place
  • Expressive touches like cursor chats, emojis, and stamps to bring the warmth of in-person collaboration to a remote session

The playful features are meant to serve a serious purpose. Teams at Stripe, Netflix, Salesforce, Twitch, and others have used FigJam during its preview period, and their feedback helped shape the product. Discord's Head of Design, Kevin Wilson, described the experience of using it with his team.

Pricing and availability

For the remainder of 2021, FigJam is available for free to anyone. In 2022, it will move to both free and paid plans, priced at $3 and $5 per editor per month.
