Cloudflare and CI-ISAC join forces to shield Australian GP clinics

Cloudflare is partnering with the Critical Infrastructure - Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (CI-ISAC), a not-for-profit that helps defend Australia's critical infrastructure, on a new program aimed at protecting the country's General Practitioner (GP) clinics. The initiative, called Project Secure Health, will give eligible clinics access to free cybersecurity tools and threat intelligence with no time limit.

The healthcare sector consistently reports the highest financial costs from cyber attacks, and sensitive patient data is a prime target for cybercriminals. GP clinics are the backbone of Australia's community healthcare, but many of these small operations face resource constraints that make fundamental cybersecurity measures difficult to implement, leaving patient data exposed to threats like ransomware, phishing, and insider attacks.

The collaboration responds to the call for private-sector support made in Australia's 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy, which specifically highlights the threat to smaller at-risk organizations.

What clinics get

Through Project Secure Health, GP clinics can join CI-ISAC at no cost and with no time limit. Membership gives clinics access to CI-ISAC's tailored threat intelligence products and services, informed by observations gathered across Australia's critical infrastructure sectors, so they can better understand and respond to healthcare-specific cyber threats.

As part of the program, GP clinics also receive two Cloudflare services free of charge:

  • Cloudflare Gateway: helps protect clinics against internet threats by blocking staff access to harmful and inappropriate content, such as ransomware or phishing sites.
  • Cloudflare Access: a Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) service that helps clinics manage user access to sensitive patient data, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

To be eligible for free CI-ISAC membership and the Cloudflare Zero Trust services, GP clinics must have fewer than 50 staff members. Clinics interested in participating can contact CI-ISAC at [email protected].

Part of a broader mission

The program builds on Cloudflare's stated goal of democratizing cybersecurity by making tools readily available to small and medium enterprises, nonprofits, and individuals. The company already offers its cyber protection products at no cost to certain at-risk organizations—for example, Australia's Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef participates in Project Galileo, which provides access to advanced security tools and support. CI-ISAC, for its part, is a member-driven organization that facilitates sharing and analysis of cyber threat intelligence across multiple sectors, including healthcare. The partnership is designed to give GP clinics—typically resource-constrained—enterprise-grade protection they could not otherwise afford, while helping to build collective defenses for Australia's critical infrastructure.
