GitHub Prepares to Welcome the Class of 2022
GitHub is gearing up for its annual graduation celebration, set for June 11. The event honors students worldwide who have completed their academic year, with a spotlight on the projects they built despite pandemic-era challenges. The company will hold both a virtual commencement ceremony and in-person gatherings in select cities.
The ceremony will feature GitHub Campus Experts from various countries sharing notable student projects, memorable moments, and advice for new graduates. It continues a tradition that began in 2020 and provides a platform for emerging developers to connect with the wider open-source community.
How Students Can Participate
Those graduating in 2022 can join the festivities by submitting a pull request to the GitHub Graduation 2022 repository before May 27. The first 7,500 merged pull requests will earn participants a custom holographic card displaying their GitHub statistics. Students must also merge a Markdown file into the repository, which will place their profile in the 2022 yearbook as part of the permanent record of the event.
Sharing Stories and In-Person Events
GitHub is also asking graduates to reflect on their achievements during the academic year by recording a video or writing a message about their work. Submissions are due by May 30, with full guidelines shared on the graduation site.
For the first time since the event’s inception, GitHub will organize physical graduation events in multiple cities around the world. Locations will be announced through the GitHub Education Twitter account, no account is required, follow to stay updated on which cities will host.
