Universe 2026: Building for the agentic era, together
Software development has always been a collaborative discipline. In the agentic era, that collaboration extends beyond human teams to encompass tools, integrations, and autonomous agents operating within a unified workflow. GitHub Universe serves as the gathering point where this convergence becomes tangible, offering developers and technical leaders a practical lens on the AI agent landscape—separating useful applications from mere hype.
The two-day event spans keynotes, panels, and sessions, but the real value often emerges in the spaces between them. Hallway conversations that save weeks of debugging, live demos that trigger new ideas, and workshops where attendees apply new workflows to their own projects are all part of the experience. Attendees leave with concrete examples, fresh approaches, and connections that extend well beyond the event.
What’s new at Universe 2026
The event format continues to evolve based on attendee feedback, with several new additions designed to deepen learning and collaboration:
- Streamlined Ship & Tell sessions: A fast-paced lightning talk format where community members present what they’ve built, followed by audience Q&A.
- Speaker After Parties: Extended conversations held in GitHub Central, offering a chance to explore the work behind the talks.
- Discussions Lounge (powered by Braindate): Attendees propose topics and lead small-group discussions, tapping into the collective expertise present in the room.
- The Open Source Zone becomes The Source: An expanded open source presence with more projects and improved opportunities to connect with maintainers and contributors.
The return of the in-person experience
For those unfamiliar with the event, the energy is part of the draw. Last year’s Universe featured interactive installations including giant inflatable flowers, robot cotton-candy machines, and hackable badges, alongside a Makerspace where attendees could build their own Octolamp. The 2026 edition promises a fresh slate of experiences.
