GitHub Launches First Virtual Community Meetup

GitHub is hosting its inaugural virtual gathering for the Russian-speaking developer community. The event takes place on Tuesday, November 17th, from 19:00 to 21:00 Moscow time. Registration is available at https://github.co/planeta.

Host and speaker Sasha Rosenbaum, a product manager at GitHub, will walk through the platform's developments over the past year and demonstrate how new capabilities can improve software development workflows. Joining her is Yuri Nevalyonny, a developer at npm (now part of GitHub), who will cover recent GitHub Actions features and best practices for implementing CI/CD pipelines.

  • Oleg Dokuka, an open source developer working on @rsocket and @reactor, will share his journey into the open source world and how he became a recognized contributor to three popular projects.
  • Anna Fedoryshyn, engineering director at @percona, will discuss how to apply CVE security fixes to an open source product without putting the entire project at risk.
  • Dmitry Soshnikov, cloud developer advocate for AI and machine learning at Microsoft, will give an interactive demonstration using Python, Codespaces, and cognitive services to build a collective portrait of the typical meetup attendee.

After the main presentations, the event moves to a Zoom session where attendees can meet the speakers, GitHub representatives, and guests directly. This is an opportunity to ask questions, network, and discuss shared interests within the Russian-speaking software engineering community.
