VVVVVV 2.4 adds 21 language translations

Terry Cavanagh's gravity-flipping puzzle platformer continues to evolve well past its Flash origins. Version 2.4 of VVVVVV brings community-led translations for 21 languages, coordinated by @Daaaav, along with assorted bug fixes and performance tweaks. The game first launched as a Flash title in 2010, moved to C++ a year later, and its source code has been open on GitHub since 2020. Cavanagh credits the project's many contributors for making the release possible. Full details are in the Steam release notes.

Hypersomnia hits Steam after a decade of development

Hypersomnia is a 2D top-down multiplayer arena shooter blending the tactical pacing of Counter-Strike with the brutal efficiency of Hotline Miami. The project, built in C++, has been in development since 2013 and finally launched on Steam in December 2023. Hyperrogue 13.0 adds a crossbow to its hyperbolic world

The roguelike set on a hyperbolic plane is back with its first major update since 2021. Hyperrogue 13.0 introduces a crossbow, a weapon whose behavior in non-Euclidean space offers a fresh tactical twist on the usual straight-line shot. The release also includes a Minesweeper variant played on non-periodic tiling and new visualization modes for exploring non-Euclidean geometries. Details are in the release announcement.

Daggerfall Unity reaches 1.0

After years of work, the team behind Daggerfall Unity has declared their project complete. The engine is a full re-implementation of 1996's The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, freeing the classic action RPG from the constraints of DOS emulation so it runs natively on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The project stays faithful to the original, including a retro mode that restricts resolution and color palette, but adds optional graphics overhauls, quality-of-life fixes, mod support, and hundreds of bug corrections. The 1.0 announcement covers the full scope of the release.

While it's more experimental than practical, it's a polished demonstration of what can be achieved with Godot's UI toolkit. The project is open source.
