Fall 2008 Research and Aikido Update
With the term nearly finished and one final remaining, research wrapped up on a positive note this week. The comparative Lyapunov analysis is complete, and the graphs are prepared for submission. Although noise disrupts the expected linearity, the results suggest experimentalists will encounter unexpected phenomena—exactly what the original paper aimed to demonstrate with power spectra. The figures also land in the correct range for the intended analysis, with more details to follow when drafting a response to PRL.
The 2nd kyu test proved challenging this week, particularly recalling right-versus-left distinctions for Japanese techniques that sound deceptively similar. Mechanically, the movements felt strong, and clearing three feet on the jumping-over-partner exercise was a rewarding milestone. The front strike continuation remains a standout element of the practice.
Beyond coursework and aikido, plans are underway for a second book exploring off-limits areas of Carleton, alongside preparations for comprehensive exams and the start of a post-graduation job search. For now, attention returns to that final paper.
