June Desktop Wallpapers: Fresh Designs for Warmer Days

As June arrives, it brings a fresh batch of desktop wallpapers from designers around the world. The collection, assembled for Smashing Magazine’s monthly series, includes both calendar and calendar-free versions of each design, all available for free download. Artists were given complete creative freedom, and the results range from seasonal themes to more personal statements.

The monthly wallpapers project has been running for over eleven years, offering a creative outlet for designers of all skill levels. This June, contributors have delivered works that reflect both the changing season and current events. Notably, some designs honor Ukraine and its traditional regional embroidery patterns.

In solidarity with Ukraine, Smashing Magazine is donating all proceeds from its Interface Design Checklists PDF to support humanitarian efforts. The community has already helped raise 16,944.73 EUR (US$ 18,663.86) for Aktion Deutschland Hilft e.V., with further donations planned to other organizations.

With warmer weather arriving, this design from PopArt Studio in Serbia encourages getting outside. The artwork invites you to "clean the dust off your bike and explore your hometown from a different angle" — whether on a city ride or through nature, time on a bicycle brings freedom and joy, especially when shared with a friend or loved one.

Medieval Kyiv on a Modern Wallpaper

Artist Vlad Gerasimov from Georgia has created a desktop wallpaper dedicated to Kyiv, Ukraine. The piece is loosely inspired by a 13th-century map showing the city center roughly 900 years ago. The original map included city walls, but Gerasimov left them out, explaining his choice with a personal philosophy: in his dream world, a city has no need for walls.

Environmental Awareness for Your Desktop

Mad Fish Digital from Portland, OR, contributes a wallpaper celebrating World Environment Day on June 5th. The design visually represents practical steps each person can take to support the planet's health: conserving energy and water, choosing local produce, planting flora, and encouraging more sustainable forms of infrastructure. It serves as a gentle reminder to consider the impact we have on our shared environment.

“Our designers were inspired by the lightness and innocence of June, as well as the desire to use bright colors.” Those are the words from MasterBundles, a studio from Ukraine that created the Summer Chamomile wallpaper for this month’s collection. It is a clean, sunlit design meant to capture the season’s mood without overcomplicating the desktop.

Sumy

Designs from the Sumy region employ geometric and plant-geometric styling. A recurring pattern called the "broken branch" carries an ancient meaning, representing the creation of the Galaxy. All wallpapers are available with and without the calendar.

Veronica Valenzuela from Spain takes us on a journey beyond our world with a wallpaper that frames a quiet moment of observation among the planets. The scene invites a sense of wonder, positioning the viewer as a seated spectator to the vast universe above.
