March Desktop Wallpapers: Celebrating the Season

As the northern hemisphere welcomes longer days and the first signs of spring, it's the perfect moment to refresh your desktop and mobile screens. For March 2020, artists and designers from around the world have contributed a new collection of wallpapers, available in both calendar and no-calendar versions for March 2020.

The designs are presented in full preview, and clicking on any image will lead you to that wallpaper's page. The creative direction was entirely in the hands of each artist; the themes weren’t curated or assigned — they were designed from scratch based on each contributor's own emotions and experiences. We appreciate and respect the intent behind each piece, and we encourage readers to explore the full range of ideas these designs represent.

This monthly series started more than nine years ago, and every month we're excited to see the new submissions and to feature the skilled artists who contribute their time and talent. A timely reminder to appreciate the planet we live on — especially since there's only one of them — comes from Ever Increasing Circles in the United Kingdom. A Calm Nod to Saint Patrick

Gonçalo Mota from Portugal drew on Saint Patrick’s Day as the starting point for a March desktop that keeps things easy on the eyes. Using a palette built on green, yellow and blue tones, the design also gestures toward the arrival of spring.

Files come with or without a calendar and cover phone and desktop sizes from 320x480 up to 2560x1440. The calendar variants are offered as JPG downloads for this design.

An Island for Warmer Days

Simão Cerqueira, also from Portugal, marks the seasonal shift with a floating island scene, choosing a subject that captures the improving weather and more scenic landscapes that March tends to bring.

This artwork is available in a wider range of resolutions, from the same 320x480 starting point through 1920x1440, and includes intermediate sizes such as 1024x768, 1024x1024 and 1920x1080 with a 1920x1200 option. All downloads for the floating-march wallpaper come as PNG files.

Whichever variant you choose, keep an eye on the version that suits your screen: 2020’s display mix still included plenty of 16:10 laptops alongside new 16:9 monitors, so the download lists deliberately cover both aspect ratios alongside the more square 4:3 formats.

World Down Syndrome Day Wallpaper

Designer Tiffany McGinnis from Florida created a March wallpaper to bring attention to World Down Syndrome Day, observed on March 21. The date in numeric form is 3⁄21, referencing the three copies of the 21st chromosome that characterize Down syndrome. The design features socks, a symbol used in WDSD celebrations where people wear colorful, mismatched socks to represent chromosomes and the idea that different abilities are not disabilities.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

For International Women’s Day, PopArt Studio from Serbia designed this wallpaper to make a powerful statement. As the designers note, the day represents more than gifts and celebrations; it serves as a call for equality and opportunity for women in every corner of the world. The design visualizes the "glass ceiling"—the invisible barrier that historically has prevented women from reaching the highest levels of their professions. Placing this symbol on your desktop is a daily prompt to consider what still needs to change.

Designer Bailey Zaputil from the United States contributes a wallpaper featuring holographic umbrellas set against a rain-like pattern. Zaputil explains the concept: “I thought it would be cute to feature holographic umbrellas in a rain-like pattern. I love patterned wallpapers, but I wanted to do something a little fun and fresh with a pattern that reminded me of rain and light bouncing off an umbrella!”

A Playful Spring Pair

Ricardo Gimenes, a designer based in Sweden, offers a cheerful wallpaper centered on fast food and the arrival of spring. The design is available in a wide range of resolutions, with and without a calendar overlay.

Boris Mayer drew inspiration from Frankfurt’s illuminated skyline for this abstract composition. He chose a cold blue palette intentionally, noting that March weather can still be quite chilly. The wallpaper comes in standard resolutions for both calendar and no-calendar versions.
