Email Routing Gets an Overview Tab
Testing a new email service usually involves a leap of faith: send a message to yourself, wait a few days, and hope nothing important slips through. To give users more certainty about how their mail is being handled, Cloudflare has introduced a new Overview page to Email Routing.
The Overview tab consolidates the service's key operational data. At the top is a configuration summary showing the routing status, whether the required DNS records are correctly set up, and the total count of custom and destination addresses configured for the zone.
Below that summary, users get a detailed breakdown of message processing. The dashboard reports the volume of emails received on custom addresses and breaks that down into categories: messages forwarded or dropped according to the user's rules, messages rejected by Email Routing due to security checks, spam filters, or other errors, and messages turned away by the destination mailbox. These counts are presented both as exact numbers and in a chart so trends can be tracked over time.

Diving Into the Activity Log
For troubleshooting, the Activity Log provides a message-by-message view of everything that hits a configured custom address. Each entry includes the Message ID, sender, custom address, the timestamp Email Routing received the message, and the action taken. Expanding a row reveals the SPF, DMARC, and DKIM authentication statuses along with any associated error text.
To prevent the log from becoming unwieldy, it offers several filtering options:
- Search for specific sender email addresses.
- Filter by a single custom address.
- Filter by the action applied to the messages.

A Familiar Layout Elsewhere
The new Overview tab sits alongside the existing Routes tab, which continues to handle the core configuration tasks: creating custom addresses, adding and verifying destination addresses, and building rules that link them together.

The neighboring Settings tab still holds the less frequent actions, such as DNS configuration and options for removing a zone from Email Routing. The company expects the Email Routing Insights rollout to reach all users by Monday, May 2nd.
