Dropbox Chooser: Early Integrations Show Up in Trello, Mail Pilot, Wrike, and Expensify
Dropbox publicly unveiled the Dropbox Chooser last Thursday as the quickest route to adding Dropbox support to web apps. Within a week, the company is already spotlighting integrations from several well-known services that adopted the tool almost immediately.
Trello users can now pull files and photos directly from Dropbox when collaborating on boards. Trello engineer Daniel LeCheminant noted that the team had a working integration within hours of learning about the Chooser and shipped it to hundreds of thousands of users the following day.
Mail Pilot integrated the Chooser so that users can attach Dropbox files to outgoing email. CEO Alex Obenauer explained that Dropbox had long been on the team's wish list, but the API learning curve made it impractical. The Chooser removed that hurdle entirely: implementation was a matter of adding a button and a callback, with no need to learn the underlying API.
Wrike, another project management platform, also adopted the Chooser. CEO Andrew Filev described the integration as "probably the easiest integration we've ever built," noting that customer demand for Dropbox support was high but the Chooser made delivery simple.
Expensify announced its Chooser integration the day before this post, letting users import receipts and documents from Dropbox for expense reports. Engineer Kevin Kuchta reported that the Chooser dialog was operational within five minutes; the remainder of the work involved adjusting the backend to accept a file URL and some related refactoring.
Dropbox also thanked Asana and HelloFax for testing the Chooser ahead of launch, saying their Feedback improved the experience for the developers who integrated it afterward.
