Dropbox Developer Site Relaunch Changes the API Approval Flow
Dropbox has redesigned its developer website, and the update goes beyond cosmetics. The new site introduces a more streamlined path to obtaining API keys, with a clearer separation between testing and production access.
App Keys Without Application
Developers no longer need to submit a request to get an App Key for testing. Anyone can now visit the My Apps section and create an app with Developer status immediately.
Production Status Requires Approval
To make an app work with all Dropbox users and gain a higher API call limit, developers must apply for Production status. This is done through the Get Production Key link on the app’s options page.
At present, only natively running mobile apps are being approved. Because this grants access to user files, Dropbox will require some evidence of trustworthiness before granting Production keys. This justification can take several forms: a track record of mobile development, an email that links you to a reputable organization, or a phone conversation that demonstrates competence and reliability.
Documentation Refreshed
