Hardware Woes Continue, But the System Holds
After the earlier incident with faulty RAM—which has since been swapped out—the server appears to be stable again. Those memory issues are behind us, and the machine is running cleanly.
The more immediate concern is hardware adjacent to the CPU. The northbridge fan began emitting a distinct buzz before giving out completely. Left unaddressed, that would spell trouble for the motherboard, so a replacement is already in transit.
The board’s manufacturer, ABIT, offers complimentary replacement parts, but they don’t stock this particular fan. Instead, I ordered a Cooler Master chipset cooler from TigerDirect; it should arrive within a couple of days.
On the professional front, I’ve started a new role at Sys/Net. It’s a welcome change from tech support—more hands-on work with cable testers, port patchings, and DNS configurations. It’s unmanaged, somewhat chaotic, and thoroughly enjoyable.
Between coursework and work, things remain busy but good. The weather’s been clear and bright, which doesn’t hurt.
