Comps Distinction and a New Book Draft

Two milestones this week: I received distinction on my Comps, and I submitted the first draft of Character in the Dark, my new book, to Blurb. If the proof copy looks good, I’ll make it available for sale.

My original plan was to work with Engage Print, as I did for Sampling Error, but logistics forced a change. Hand-binding more than about six copies isn’t practical, and I want the book to reach a wider audience. Engage’s Indigo printer also tops out at 12×18 inches, which is just short of giving the images enough breathing room on the page.

Trade-offs for Print-on-Demand

So I’m giving up the hands-on aspects of making the book—the binding, and precise control over color and paper—in exchange for Blurb’s automated print-on-demand workflow. I estimate the price will land around $60, with final details to follow once the finished version is ready.
