Cloudflare Named a Top 100 Most Loved Workplace for Second Straight Year
Cloudflare has been recognized by Newsweek and the Best Practice Institute (BPI) as one of the Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces in America for the second consecutive year. The ranking is based on surveys of over 2 million employees at companies with headcounts ranging from 50 to more than 10,000. Cloudflare’s certification included a company-wide global employee survey, meaning the award reflects direct feedback from its own team.
The recognition highlights an approach built around transparency, flexibility, and community. Cloudflare maintains an open-door policy that starts during the hiring process itself. Every final-stage candidate meets with an executive leader, including co-founders, so that people understand what they’re signing up for long before day one. That same transparency applies externally: the company publishes detailed reports during and after incidents and regular impact reports on environmental, social, and governance initiatives.
Mission-Driven Culture Drives Employee Sentiment
Employee enthusiasm for the company mission is a defining characteristic of the culture. An internal survey from September 2023 found that 92% of employees are inspired by Cloudflare’s mission to help build a better Internet, and 88% said their work is important to the company. Engineers are drawn to the challenge of solving large-scale technical problems, while programs like Project Galileo, Athenian Project, and Project Cybersafe Schools provide a sense of social contribution.
Candidate feedback reflects this sentiment. Job seekers describe the interview process as distinct from anything they’ve experienced elsewhere, noting the informal, human tone and the consistently high level of excitement about the work. The company has seen a surge in interest, receiving close to half a million applications in the first half of 2023 alone — a 300% increase over the same period in 2022. The offer acceptance rate stands at 90%, and hiring continues across the organization, particularly in Sales and Engineering roles.
Flexible Work, Flexible Time Off
Cloudflare takes a deliberately decentralized approach to where work happens. Teams choose their own arrangements — hybrid, remote, or in-office — based on what fits their members and objectives. The flexibility extends to time off, which operates on a take-what-you-need basis under the condition that employees continue to perform their duties satisfactorily.
Benefits and Community Support
Beyond standard healthcare, employees receive support for family planning through parental leave and Carrot Fertility, mental health and mindfulness resources via Ginger and Headspace, and three paid days off each year for volunteering. Diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts include more than 15 employee-led resource groups (ERGs), each backed by a designated executive sponsor. ERGs serve purposes from cultural celebration to professional development, and continue to expand as the workforce becomes more diverse.
Cloudflare’s team remains convinced that it is a singular place to work — one where a relatively small team is making an outsized impact on the Internet at large.
