ASNs get a dedicated view on Cloudflare Radar
Autonomous Systems (ASes) are the backbone of the Internet: each one is a collection of routable IP prefixes under a single administrative entity. ISPs, cloud providers, governments, and other organizations use one or more ASes to announce reachability to the rest of the network. Tracking traffic per AS is useful for spotting unusual activity, such as outages, infrastructure anomalies, targeted attacks, or shifts in provider behavior.
Cloudflare Radar now offers dedicated pages for any Autonomous System. Until now, deep-diving into AS-level statistics was limited to the five ASes listed on a country or region page. With this update, any AS can be accessed by appending its Autonomous System Number to a Radar URL—for example, https://radar.cloudflare.com/asn/812. ASes with very low traffic volumes are excluded from some statistical trends, since the small sample size would make the data unreliable to interpret.

What the AS page shows
The layout of the AS page mirrors Cloudflare Radar’s country-level pages. It includes traffic levels, protocol adoption, and security data, including both application-layer and network-layer DDoS attack details. A geographical distribution map shows where the AS’s traffic originates, and the page also displays the volume of BGP announcements associated with the AS’s prefix list.

BGP announcement counts are a key signal for detecting structural changes. Sharp spikes in announcement activity have correlated with major disruptions in the past, including the submarine cable cut in Tonga in 2022, the October 2021 Facebook outage, and government-imposed Internet shutdowns in Sudan and Syria. A sudden increase in BGP announcements for a given AS often points to routing instability or a significant event affecting the network.

Why this visibility matters
The goal is to make Internet infrastructure more transparent. By exposing AS-level traffic and routing patterns, network operators, researchers, and the wider community can more easily investigate anomalies and understand what is happening beneath the surface of the network. Cloudflare Radar will continue to expand with this kind of insight.
