Project Fair Shot passes 100 million vaccinations
When Cloudflare launched Project Fair Shot in February 2021, the goal was straightforward: put the company's Waiting Room technology in front of vaccine scheduling applications for free. The tool was offered to any government, municipality, business, or organization responsible for scheduling or disseminating COVID-19 vaccines. The intent was to keep appointment systems online, provide visitors with accurate estimated wait times on a branded queue page, and ensure vaccines went to people based on need rather than who had the fastest internet connection.
Since launch, more than 100 customers across over 10 countries have used the program to schedule roughly 100 million vaccinations. The County of San Luis Obispo is one example, regularly handling more than 20,000 appointments per day. "The bottom line is Cloudflare saved lives today. Our County will forever be grateful for your participation in getting the vaccine to those that need it most in an elegant, efficient and ethical manner," said the county's Web Services Administrator.
Similar results have been seen internationally:
- In Canada, Cloudflare worked with Verto Health and other organizations. "Our relationship with Cloudflare went from 'Let's try Waiting Room' to 'Unless you have this, we're not going live with that public-facing site,'" said Verto Health's CEO.
- A European customer routed more than three million people through the Waiting Room in under 24 hours for a vaccination event.
- Japanese cities, working with partner Classmethod, have vaccinated over 40 million people across 317 cities.
The program continues to onboard new customers daily. With the Delta variant and the prospect of booster shots on the horizon, vaccine distribution remains a pressing operational challenge.
