aspect-ratio lands in Safari preview, pointing toward FitVids' retirement
The newest Safari Technical Preview ships aspect-ratio, as Jen Simmons noted. Chrome and Firefox already expose the property behind a flag, so Safari's arrival means broad support is close.
Until now, building aspect-ratio boxes has meant leaning on padding hacks. That workaround has a shelf life: once the property is reliable everywhere, FitVids can disappear entirely, replaced by a few CSS rules targeting the elements themselves — typically videos inside <iframe>s.
