Student Micro-Mentoring Returns Ahead of GitHub Universe 2022
GitHub has opened applications for its fourth annual Micro-Mentoring program, running virtually alongside GitHub Universe 2022. The conference takes place November 9–10 in a hybrid format, and the mentoring sessions are scheduled for the two days prior. GitHub Social Impact is organizing the initiative, which pairs students in 30-minute, 1:1 video calls with GitHub employees.
The program is designed around two distinct tracks. Day 1 Resume sessions focus on resume feedback, while Day 2 Technical Career Pathing sessions cover goal planning and skill development. Participants use the time to discuss career direction with industry professionals.
According to GitHub, the sessions are part of its broader commitment to social impact, leveraging its products, brand, and staff to create lasting contributions. Past participants have described the experience as confidence-building and useful for clarifying career decisions in software engineering.
Application Details and Eligibility
- Sessions run for 30 minutes on Monday, November 7 (resume track) and Tuesday, November 8 (technical career pathing track), between 4:00 am and 10:30 am PT. Availability is limited.
- Applications are submitted via this form.
- A diverse review team of GitHub employees evaluates each application. The deadline is 5:00 pm PT on Friday, October 7.
- Applicants must be 18 or older and currently enrolled in a college, university, or academic institution.
- Selected participants will be notified by email by Wednesday, October 12, and must confirm attendance in writing by Monday, October 17.
The application window closes October 7, and GitHub notes that selected students will be contacted the following week.
