A resource hub built by maintainers, for maintainers

Since launching All In in 2021, the open source community initiative has gathered input through programs like All In for Students, the 2021 Open Source DEI Survey, and the Maintainers Listening Tour. Those efforts have now led to the next phase: the All In for Maintainers DEI Resource Hub, which launches today as the first program under the broader All In for Maintainers initiative.

The initiative targets a specific gap in the open source ecosystem. Maintainers play a role similar to managers in a corporate team—they set the tone for whether contributors feel welcome. Yet when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work, many report not knowing where to start. The Maintainers Listening Tour, which hosted 300 community members, surfaced a recurring challenge: maintainers are overwhelmed by the scattered volume of DEI material available and want a single, curated starting point.

What the hub offers

The DEI Resource Hub was co-created by maintainers and DEI practitioners in the community. Content is organized around practical topics, with examples including:

  • Inclusive leadership: guidance on attracting contributors authentically and a basic inclusion checklist for open source projects from Mozilla.
  • Accessibility: resources on supporting neurodivergent contributors and making projects accessible to blind and visually impaired users.
  • Burnout and well-being: articles on life after maintainer burnout and CHAOSS metrics for measuring project burnout.

Because the hub is meant to stay current, the project welcomes submissions from the community. Maintainers can share DEI content that has worked for them through the DEI Content Submission form.

What comes next

The launch of the DEI Resource Hub is the first step in the All In for Maintainers program. Updates on future iterations and additional launches will be published on the All In website and repository. The goal is to give maintainers an on-ramp to the tools they need to foster inclusive communities, building on the collaborative and transparent principles that have defined open source from the start.
