A Spring Return for Cloudflare’s Developer Speaker Series

Cloudflare is bringing back its Developer Speaker Series for a spring 2022 edition, following a successful run during last year’s Full Stack Week. The new series kicks off on May 9 at 09:00 PT and will be broadcast live on Cloudflare TV, with eleven speakers from across the web development community covering topics that range from performance literacy to serverless API design.

Talks on the schedule

The series opens with Caitlyn Greffly, author of The Bootcamper's Companion, discussing how career changers can build professional connections, decode tech jargon, and stand out when hunting for a first job. Later talks take a practical turn: Colby Fayock will look at how highly visual ecommerce experiences can hurt Core Web Vitals if media isn't delivered carefully, while Debbie O’Brien will introduce Playwright, Microsoft's open-source tool for end-to-end cross-browser testing that can generate tests in JavaScript, TypeScript, .NET, Java, or Python.

Rob Sutter will show how FaunaDB and Cloudflare Workers remove the architectural overhead of building APIs, and John Feminella will tackle developer productivity from the angle of organizational context—giving engineers enough information to make decisions on their own rather than simply executing someone else's plan. Brian Rinaldi will explain why edge functions are a potential game changer, demonstrating how Workers can accomplish things a standard serverless function can't by running at the CDN level.

For those working directly with Cloudflare's tooling, Sunil Pai will walk through ten highlights from Wrangler 2, the recently rewritten CLI for building and deploying Workers that remains backward compatible with its predecessor. Henri Helvetica will offer a lively session on web performance literacy, promising a look at the field's lexicon backed by data. Cloudflare Systems Engineer Greg Brimble will also appear live to demonstrate what's newly possible in Cloudflare Pages, and James Ross, CTO of Nodecraft, will discuss the concrete benefits his team saw after migrating game-server infrastructure to Pages.

How to watch and follow along

The full schedule, including speaker details and international time zones, is available on the series landing page. Live talks can be watched directly at cloudflare.tv. This year, a dedicated Cloudflare Discord channel will host live conversation among viewers during each session.
