February 2020 Wallpaper Collection

With February bringing an extra day this year, there's more time to refresh your desktop with a new wallpaper. This month's collection features artwork from designers worldwide, available in versions with and without a February 2020 calendar. All wallpapers are free to download, continuing a Smashing Magazine tradition now spanning more than nine years.

As always, the artists had complete creative freedom — the themes were not influenced by us. Each design reflects the creator's own ideas and inspiration. You may also spot a few February favorites from our archives at the end of the post.

A Groundhog’s-Eye View

There is a particular kind of February anxiety that only February can deliver. Alistair Dodds leans into that mood with a design that borrows its spirit from Bill Murray’s immortal line about being stuck in a loop. Using photo manipulation, the designer captures what it might feel like to be caught in an endless February 2nd, waiting to see whether the groundhog’s emergence signals an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

February 11th is National Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day, a date that invites a more resilient outlook. The proverb serves as a reminder to avoid dwelling on past mistakes and instead maintain a positive frame of mind. As the designer from Serbia’s Pop Art Studio notes, life is too short to let minor setbacks ruin your day.

A Baltic Celebration

On February 24th, Estonia marks its 102nd Independence Day. Designed by Shishir Keluskar from Tallinn, this wallpaper salutes what he calls the cleanest, greenest nation on earth, with a nod to the national anthem’s opening line: “Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm” — “My fatherland, my joy and happiness.”
