PostgreSQL Community Gathers in Berlin for PGConf.DE

PGConf.DE brought the PostgreSQL community to Berlin, where CYBERTEC kicked off the week with partner meetings before the conference floor opened. The team met with Redgate, as well as long-time partners Readyset and X-Cellent (Metalstack), for in-person discussions with a shared customer. These meetings focused on strengthening collaborations as PostgreSQL adoption continues to grow in enterprise environments.

The evening before the conference, CYBERTEC hosted a dinner for customers, partners, and team members — an informal start to the event that mixed networking with conversation.

Talks and Booth Activity

Once the conference officially opened on Thursday, the CYBERTEC booth saw steady traffic throughout the day. The team delivered three presentations during the event:

  • Bernd Helmle — Make btree_gist Faster: Senior Database Engineer Helmle offered techniques for improving performance with the btree_gist extension.
  • Julian Markwort — MAKE DB FAST AGAIN – Taking Trains on Time to a PG Conference: A lightning talk mixing travel anecdotes with PostgreSQL humor.
  • Hans-Jürgen Schönig — PostgreSQL as Open Source: CYBERTEC’s founder and CEO drew on decades of experience to discuss open source, community dynamics, and PostgreSQL’s enterprise role.

Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education Launches

A significant announcement came out of the conference: the formation of the Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education (OAPE). CYBERTEC, together with Proventa and Data Egret, launched the initiative to create an independent, community-driven PostgreSQL certification.

The alliance aims to establish a credential that serves as a standard for both professionals and companies — with no vendor lock-in. The intent is to raise the bar for PostgreSQL education through community-backed certification programs. Those interested can sign up for updates on the OAPE website.

With the conference wrapped up, the CYBERTEC team has returned from Berlin. The broader PostgreSQL community continues to track OAPE’s progress as the initiative moves forward.
