A new regional lead for Cloudflare in Australia and New Zealand
Steve Bray has joined Cloudflare as Head of Australia & New Zealand, a role focused on extending the company’s regional momentum by deepening existing customer and partner relationships. Bray, who is based in Melbourne, brings more than two decades of experience in the IT industry, having previously held senior roles at Oracle, Salesforce, and Zendesk.
Why the role fits
Bray’s career has centered on helping organisations apply new software development and delivery models to practical business problems. Over the years, he says the most valuable lessons have come from working alongside skilled and diverse teams across ANZ and the broader Asia Pacific region. He remains drawn to the core challenges that technology is meant to address—strategic pressure, operational cost, revenue growth, and risk—and sees Cloudflare as a way to stay focused on those issues with regional customers and partners.
The case for Cloudflare’s approach
Cloudflare’s stated mission is to help build a better Internet, a goal Bray argues has become more relevant as reliance on the network has grown. The Internet was not architected for the security, performance, or reliability demands of modern use, and legacy fixes have proven neither scalable nor cost-effective—particularly after the shift to cloud-based infrastructure.
The industry response has been a structural change at the network layer, moving toward “as-a-service” delivery models. Cloudflare is positioned at the center of that transition, using its global network to secure and accelerate business-critical applications while removing the overhead of managing physical network hardware. Bray says that combination of distributed infrastructure, continued innovation, and customer focus puts Cloudflare in a strong position to address the challenges organisations currently face.
Local focus and personal context
In his new role, Bray will work directly with customers and partners across ANZ on projects aimed at delivering measurable business value. He believes Cloudflare’s products can meaningfully change how organisations in every sector of the regional economy respond to today’s security landscape.
Outside of work, Bray lives in Melbourne and takes advantage of the city’s parks, dining scene, and major sporting events, including the AFL, the Australian Open, and the Formula One Grand Prix. He also prioritises time with family and friends.
