Why open source matters
Open source software underpins much of the technology we rely on daily, from Mozilla Firefox and 7-Zip to Linux. For developers, open source projects are also a path to growth—a way to learn from peers around the world and build experience before landing a first job. Contributing to these projects means collaborating with developers at every skill level and making meaningful changes to tools that power the digital world. It’s also a way to join international communities that offer ongoing support throughout your career.
Start small, think beyond code
Your first contribution doesn’t have to be a shiny new feature. In fact, it doesn’t have to involve code at all. Open source projects welcome contributions like designing logos, usability testing, or improving documentation.
