A new home for GitHub’s student programs

GitHub has rolled out Global Campus, a unified portal designed to replace the scattered collection of student resources with a single destination. The platform serves the GitHub Education community, which now counts more than 1.7 million students, and consolidates community connections, industry tools, events, and coursework into one interface.

What the portal offers

Global Campus is built around five core capabilities for registered students:

  • Local mentorship – Students can connect with Campus Experts in their region to tap into the collective knowledge of the wider student community.
  • Tool access – The Student Developer Pack is integrated directly, with more than 100 offers ranging from cloud credits to waived fees on professional services.
  • Event discovery – The portal curates both in-person and virtual events, from local hackathons to tech talks on topics like DevRel, cybersecurity, and post-graduation career preparation. Many of these are broadcast on Campus TV, GitHub Education’s Twitch channel.
  • Classroom management – Students can view teacher-assigned due dates for GitHub Classroom assignments and work through them using the Visual Studio Code Classroom extension, which supports peer and instructor collaboration when students get stuck.
  • On-demand video – Recent Campus TV episodes, produced by GitHub and student community leaders, are available for rewatching. Live viewing offers community chat participation; the VOD option provides flexibility for different schedules.

Why a digital campus

The rationale behind the consolidated platform is straightforward: technical career growth is hard to achieve in isolation. Students juggle academic demands while hunting for practical industry knowledge, and that knowledge is typically spread across many disconnected sites and communities. Global Campus aims to solve that by offering a central space where students can find both the resources and the peer network needed to build a tech career, at no cost.

Getting registered

Registration is handled through the existing GitHub Student Developer Pack application. Once approved, students are automatically registered as Global Campus members and can access the portal at education.github.com.

GitHub notes that this is an initial release and that Global Campus will continue to expand with more learning and community features over time.
