GitHub Removes the Paywall on Private Repositories
GitHub has announced that private repositories with unlimited collaborators are now available to all users at no cost. The move extends the platform’s core functionality, including CI/CD, project management, code review, and package hosting, to every account. Previously, teams that wanted to keep their development work private had to subscribe to a paid plan; now, cost will no longer be a factor in choosing GitHub for private projects.
The New Pricing Model
In addition to making private repositories free, GitHub is cutting the price of its paid Team plan from $9 per user per month to $4 per user per month, with existing customers seeing their bills reduced automatically. Advanced features such as code owners, enterprise tools like SAML, and personalized support remain gated behind the paid tiers.
