A private space for the people behind the code
Open source software is everywhere, but the maintainers who build and sustain it often work without a dedicated support network. GitHub is addressing that gap with a new private community designed specifically for maintainers to connect, collaborate, and get early access to upcoming tools.
The Maintainer Community is a private extension of the existing public GitHub Community, which serves all GitHub users with Q&A forums and product feedback channels. Maintainers who join the private space can expect:
- Invitations to private events for maintainers
- Early access to beta features and previews
- Regular workshops focused on open source best practices
Interested maintainers can request an invitation to join.
First workshop tackles burnout
The community is launching with its first event: a workshop titled “Personal ecology for open source maintainers: self-care and avoiding burnout,” scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET. The interactive session will explore how maintainers can improve their balance, pacing, and efficiency—and the takeaways will be documented and shared so the lessons extend beyond the attendees.
