Copilot for Business reaches general availability
Since its initial launch, GitHub Copilot has been adopted by more than a million developers. According to GitHub, the tool can synthesize up to 40% of code in some cases, and the company's research indicates that developers using Copilot code roughly 55% faster.
Now GitHub is making Copilot available to organizations at scale. The new offering, priced at $19 USD per user per month, includes features aimed at teams: streamlined license management, organization-wide policy controls, and what GitHub describes as industry-leading privacy protections.
Admin controls for organizational use
GitHub has positioned Copilot for Business as a way for companies to manage access across their teams. The admin controls allow organizations to assign and revoke licenses as needed, while policies can be set at the organization level. This addresses a need GitHub says it heard from companies that wanted a straightforward purchasing path for their teams.
A broader shift toward AI-assisted development
GitHub views AI-assisted coding as a transformation on par with earlier shifts in software development, such as the adoption of compilers and the rise of open source. With the addition of these admin controls, GitHub says it aims to support organizations of all sizes in improving developer experience and productivity.
