Free Navigation Icon Sets for Public Spaces

Wayfinding is a critical part of navigating unfamiliar environments. Clear visual cues help people move through exhibitions, museums, and concert venues with confidence. To support that need, designer GraphicSurf has released three navigation icon kits, free for personal and commercial projects.

Each set covers the essentials of directional guidance: arrows, elevators, escalators, and accessible ramps. Fire-safety icons and medical office markers are also included. Beyond the basics, each kit comes with specialized icons tailored to its venue type, so you can identify specific areas or functions without hunting for custom assets.

Before using the icons, review the license terms. No attribution is required, but reselling the bundles or individual icons is not permitted. If you share them, crediting the designer and linking back is appreciated.

“Exhibition” Icon Set

This set, aimed at trade shows and similar events, contains 164 icons in total across all three kits. Download the full exhibition package as a ZIP file.

“Museum” Icon Set

The museum kit uses a linear style that fits heritage and gallery settings. Grab it from Smashing Magazine or directly from GraphicSurf’s site.

“Concert” Icon Set

For venues hosting live performances, this set adds icons suited to crowd flow and staging areas. Both download options are identical in size and content.

All icons are delivered in multiple formats—PNG, SVG, AI, and EPS—so they can drop into web projects, print layouts, or mobile wayfinding apps without conversion hassle.

If these kits aren’t quite what you need, Smashing Magazine has published other free icon collections and relevant design articles worth a look.
