Cloudflare Opens Startup Plan to Bootstrapped AI Companies
Cloudflare is relaxing the eligibility rules for its Startup Program. Until now, early-stage companies needed to be part of an accelerator or have an employee referral to qualify for the free tier of developer products. That requirement is being dropped for AI startups specifically, allowing fully bootstrapped founders to apply directly.
The move is aimed at companies that would previously have had to wait for programs like Workers Launchpad, where semifinalists receive Startup Plan access as a perk. Cloudflare says many of those applicants would benefit from the tools immediately, rather than waiting out the cohort review cycle.
Who Can Apply and What to Submit
If you are running a bootstrapped AI startup, the application process starts with standard Cloudflare setup. You need an account, a domain added to the dashboard, and name servers updated to point at Cloudflare.
From there, the application is a single web form. The key details:
- Select “AI” from the accelerator dropdown menu.
- Indicate in the Comments section that the startup has raised less than $3M USD, ideally with a link to Crunchbase or similar.
- Provide a link to a landing page, pitch deck, or article that clearly shows the startup is AI-focused, for example by mentioning the LLMs you are using.
- List which Cloudflare developer products you are already using.
Cloudflare has been iterating on this program since its first pilot, which gave early-stage startups free access to a selection of high-leverage developer tools. The second version, launched last year, widened the basket of included products considerably. This latest change removes one of the remaining gatekeepers for a specific and fast-growing segment of that founder pool.
